Navitar Acquires ITRIX, The San Francisco-Based Videoconference Lighting
Rochester, NY January 20, 1999 - Navitar Manufacturing, Inc.
announces the purchase of Itrix, Inc., a manufacturer of specialized lighting
products and other performance enhancements for the growing videoconferencing
industry. Itrix is currently headquartered in San Francisco, but Navitar plans
to relocate the production, marketing and engineering functions to Rochester.
The Itrix Hi-Lite product will be incorporated into Navitar’s existing audiovisual
distribution system. The company’s world leading videoconference lighting
technology will dramatically improve the appearance of any videoconference system.
In fact, the Itrix Hi-Lite products work so well that they are currently being
used in the videoconferencing demo rooms of leading companies in the videoconferencing
industry, including PictureTel, RSI, 3M and Polycom.
Users of videoconferencing products are often unaware of just how bad they
can look at the other end of the system. The addition of Navitar’s ceiling
mounted videoconference lighting, will produce a TV studio-quality effect in
any videoconferencing room. Participants will appear warm, friendly and healthier
looking with increased depth, as opposed to appearing flat, cold and very electronic
looking without the proper lighting. The Hi-Lite features variable lighting
intensity, which allows adjustment of the amount of light for each person’s
individual skin tones and lighting needs. All the videoconference participants
will look and feel like they have their own movie or TV studio lighting enhancing
their on-screen appearance.
The acquisition of Itrix now gives Navitar production facilities in California,
Florida, Pennsylvania and New York. Navitar Manufacturing, Inc. is headquartered
in Rochester, New York and owned by brothers, Julian and Jeremy Goldstein. The
Goldstein brothers also own several other successful companies, including: PicturePhone
Direct, Inc., a distributor of videoconferencing equipment; Navitar, Inc., a
manufacturer of AV presentation and video inspection products; Buhl Optical,
which produces LCD video projection optics and; GM Vacuum Coating Laboratory,
Inc., which produces mirrors, filters and reflector components for use with
ultraviolet (UV) and visible light sources.
Navitar plans to aggressively develop Itrix’s strong position in the
growing market for videoconferencing accessories. The Hi-Lite products integrate
very well with Navitar’s AV presentation product line and will be sold
worldwide by Navitar’s existing network of AV dealers.
